If I were an attorney I wouldn’t touch this case. With his criminal and violent past he has little chance of winning. The only thing he might have in his favor is that the mental health hospital should have known about his past if they did a criminal background check on him. And if they did know about his past and hired him anyway then I could see some liability on the hospital. But he is going to have a long and difficult fight ahead of him. A fight he may very well lose. Not to mention that he is now known for suing former employers so good luck getting another job.
As far as you are concerned, get a good divorce attorney and leave this guy. He sounds dangerous.

he doesn’t have a prayer. What you do at home most certainly can affect work. Otherwise random drug testing and background checks wouldn’t exist. Besides, they let him go because of what he did to you. If he did it (and i believe he did based on what you tell me) it still has nothing to do with you, I’d think, because you were simply protecting yourself. He could sue the hospital but he knows he’d never win so he’s trying to browbeat you.
I wish I could give you better advice.. I really don’t know the law where you live. he sounds pathetic though and any judge or lawyer with good sense will see right through this. Half a million? He sounds freakin’ delusional. By definition he sounds delusional.
I’ll say one more thing too… He’d better not be hounding you about suing you or calling too much or seeking you out. That can be seen as harrassment and could work seriously against him. Document everything the little weasel says to you and have it in hand if you ever have to deal with him again. If he doesn’t leav e you alone, get a restraining order.

Sad as it sounds, you should spend the money for an attorney to be sure this is handled properly. Depending on where you live you may be able to couter-sue for legal expenses.
You called the cops on him. Fine. The fact that he got reduced charges or probation mens that he probably had to plead guilty. If he pled guilty in a criminal court to charges you filed, he has no way in hell to show that you were responsible for him loosing the job. It was his own actions that he already admitted to in a court of law.
